The Value of Mother-Tongue and Urdu Medium Education

Why learning in one's mother tongue, alongside a strong multi-language foundation, helps young children learn with confidence.

Educationists have long observed that young children grasp new ideas more easily when they are first taught in a language they already speak at home. For many families in and around Asansol, that language is Urdu.

An Urdu medium education does not mean learning in only one language. At Asansol Hamdard Public School (High), students also study English and Bengali alongside Urdu, building fluency across languages while feeling at home with the language of instruction. This approach helps children:

  • Understand new concepts in mathematics, science, and social studies more clearly, without a language barrier getting in the way first.
  • Build confidence in the classroom, since they can express what they know in a language they are comfortable with.
  • Stay connected to their language and culture while still preparing for the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education curriculum and beyond.

We believe a strong foundation in one's own language, paired with genuine multi-language learning, gives every child the best start in their education.
